The shooting happened about 7:20 p.m. near Garvey Avenue and Tracy Street. After shooting at the victims, the suspect continued firing as he ran westbound on Tracy Street, hitting an IHOP Restaurant and a car passing on Baldwin Park Boulevard, according to Young. Detectives didn’t release the name of the other victim who wasn’t injured. He drove the Honda and was described as a Baldwin Park man in his 20s. The encounter with the suspect occurred earlier as the victims’ Honda Civic was driving on Garvey Avenue to get into the Burger King parking lot. “The pedestrian looked at them. Witnesses heard raised voices,” Young said. BALDWIN PARK – Joe Hinojos of Baldwin Park and a friend drove to a local Burger King to get something to eat March 28 when a confrontation with a pedestrian turned deadly. The man followed their Honda Civic from the parking lot to nearby Tracy Street and shot several times at the driver who stood outside the car, and then at Hinojos, who was the passenger, sheriff’s homicide detectives said. The 23-year-old Hinojos later died at a hospital. On Wednesday, detectives asked the public’s help in finding the shooter as well as two women, one pushing a stroller, who may have seen the slaying or have information on the suspect. Sheriff’s Sgt. Suzan Young said the two victims didn’t have any gang ties. The victims parked at the Burger King at 3101 Baldwin Park Blvd. Young said the driver saw the suspect approaching and to avoid a confrontation, parked on Tracy Street. But the suspect followed. He pulled out a gun. He fired two to three times at the driver who dropped to the ground, Young said. None of the rounds hit the driver. “He hears additional gunfire and hears his friend screaming,” she said. The driver took the injured Hinojos to Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m. A memorial with votive candles, a bouquet of plastic yellow flowers, and two signs that said “Joe” or “Baby Joe” lay within a short distance from where the Civic parked. The suspect was described as Latino, 23 to 25 years old, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin and with short, black hair spiked up about an inch. He wore a short-sleeved black T-shirt, black shorts that reached below the knees and carried either a sweater or a jacket. The two witnesses were described as Latinas. The one who was pushing a stroller is 26 to 30 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, of medium build and with long black straight hair down to the middle of her back. Her companion is in her mid-20s, of medium build and maybe shorter than her.
