Please listen for weather advisories and heed the advice given by authorities.Residents of Salt Cay, and Middle Caicos I encourage you to take the advice of authorities in your area for evacuations, and those living in coastal areas should either move inland or to high floors.Ensure that your home is properly secured and your surroundings are cleared of any possible debris. Those in flood prone areas are especially advised to take heed in securing your property. Please make use of the Hurricane Shelters if you need to and have all that you may need at the shelter including food, clothing, toiletries, blankets, important documents, etc. Be sure that you have enough food and drinking water for each member of your family to last at least a day or two after the storm, as electricity may not return immediately. Fully charge all of your electronic devices including your additional/backup batteries. Check to ensure your flash lights and lanterns are working and have spear batteries on hand. General Motors Having a bunch of tech is no good if it doesn’t receive the juice it needs to operate alongside the myriad other systems, all of which have their own demands. That’s why GM has a new electronic architecture in the works.General Motors on Monday unveiled its latest electronic platform. “Platform” in this case doesn’t refer to the metal structure hiding beneath the car’s body panels. Rather, it covers the electronic underpinnings of the car, focused entirely on the wiring and components that provide the car with modern connectivity. It’ll give GM’s future cars the bandwidth they’ll need to pack all the latest in-car tech.The platform is capable of handling up to 4.5 terabytes of data processing per hour, which GM says is five times more than its current electronic architecture can handle. That should provide a boost to GM’s Super Cruise system, which needs to crunch a whole bunch of data to do its job. At the same time, various components inside the car should be able to talk with each other — and with systems outside the vehicle — even faster, because the new platform supports Ethernet connections up to 10 Gbps.So what will all this extra bandwidth permit? Well, GM didn’t speak too much to specifics, but it did promise more capacity for over-the-air updates, eliminating frustrating trips to the dealer and allowing for more content to show up after the fact. It should also give a boost to Super Cruise, which GM said will evolve, but it didn’t say how exactly. The automaker also made mention of improved cybersecurity, but it only said that there will be “additional protective features at the hardware and software levels.”It won’t be long before we get to experience this upgrade. GM’s new electronic platform will enter production later this year, and it’ll make its first appearance on the upcoming Cadillac CT5 sedan. Photo: UNBBangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) demolished 290 more illegal structures along the Buriganga river on Thursday, the third and final day of the second phase drive.With this, a total of 1,199 establishments were pulled down from the banks of the river in two phases of the drive.The BIWTA started the drive on the third day around 10:30am which continued till 4:00pm in Kamalbagh and Loharpool Chata Masjid area in Kamrangirchar.In the first-phase drive on 29-31 January, the authorities dismantled some 444 illegal establishments while the second-phase drive started on 5 February.The three-day third-phase drive will begin on 12 February.

Chief technology officer with Intel, Justin Rattner, said the chip comprises 1.3-billion transistors arranged in a network of 24 tiles, each of which has two Pentium-class IA-32 cores, two L2 caches, plus a router to enable communications between cores. The system uses new software applications to control the power consumed by the cores, and to rapidly transfer data between the cores. This means data can go directly between cores without needing to go via the main memory, and this cuts the data transfer speed by 15 times. The software prevents the data being corrupted by instructing the cache sending the data to delete its copy after it is sent, and the receiving cache to delete old copies of the data before receiving the new. The software controlling power consumption allows application developers, rather than the operating system, to decide how power consumed by the cores is controlled. The tiles can all be independently controlled, which means the power consumption on some cores can be reduced to as low as 25 watts, while others can be up to 125 watts. While some developers are not yet sure what they will do with the feature, many are interested in learning more.Intel’s director of advanced microprocessor research, Nitin Borkar, said tasks could be programmed to run at greater power efficiency rather than higher power if appropriate, or individual cores could be throttled back after they have finished their computations. This would give the system the “compute on demand” feature of traditional data centers.Intel Labs are forming partnerships with industry and university researchers and producing 100 of the chips to enable research to refine the chip architecture and maximize its usefulness.The chip was unveiled at the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco on 8 February.
