career Dipa who started practicing gymnastics at the age of six said she wasn’t very interested in the sport and only pursued it as her father who was a coach at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) month that shehad sneaked into the shortlist of participants Sometimes destine comes up with a few special scripts in sports Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane tried to hide his disappointment at missing the chance to close to gap on rivals Barcelona at the top of La Liga to six points on Saturday Madrid failed to capitalise on Barca’s 2-2 draw at home to Celta Vigo earlier in the day as they played out a 0-0 stalemate at Athletic Bilbao to drop points for the sixth time in 14 La Liga games so far this season File photo of Zinedine Zidane Getty Images "For me the most important thing is to keep thinking that we are going to have another opportunity throughout the course of the season to cut the gap" said Zidane That opportunity to cut the eight-point gap between the sides is most likely to come when Madrid host Barcelona in three weeks time However Real could go into that match down in fifth in the table as they currently lead Sevilla only on goal difference in fourth and trail Valencia and Atletico Madrid Zidane’s men will also be depleted without captain Sergio Ramos who saw his 24th career red card late on at Sam Mames Dani Carvajal and Casemiro through suspension when Sevilla visit the Bernabeu next weekend And Real will play a game fewer in La Liga than their rivals before the end of the year as they jet off to contest the Club World Cup between 13 and 16 December "At the moment there are three teams in front of us but there are still six months left We are at little behind but there is a long way to go" added Zidane Zidane had shown his intent to pounce on Barca’s slip-up by naming his strongest available side as Gareth Bale once again missed out through injury Without the man from Cardiff Madrid started with the same line-up that started the Champions League final in the Welsh capital six months ago However Zidane insisted it is merely results and not the level of performance that has changed for Real since they swept Juventus aside to retain the Champions League and beat Barcelona to the La Liga title last season "It is the result nothing more When I look at the game today I can’t say we are playing worse" added the Frenchman "What changes things are goals That day we scored four against Juve and today we couldn’t score Last season we would score goals in the last minute and at the moment that isn’t happening "We need to keep going and think that there will be better moments to come" London: For the first time since he arrived at Liverpool Jurgen Klopp is in the midst of a crisis to the extent that a win on Tuesday at home to Premier League leaders Chelsea is obligatory The 49-year-old charismatic German – who replaced Brendan Rodgers in November 2015 – has seen his side knocked out of two Cup competitions inside a week and a further loss to Chelsea would be the first time since 1923 they have lost four successive games at Anfield and only the second time in their 125-year history Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is in a difficult position Reuters However victory over Antonio Conte’s side would reduce the gap between them to seven points whilst should Arsenal beat out of form Watford and their north London rivals Spurs beat bottom side Sunderland they would be just five and six points off the leaders respectively Klopp though accepts some confidence has seeped away from his side with just one win in eight games in January and the free-flowing eye-catching football they were playing seems a distant memory "We spoke about confidence a few months ago and I said it’s a little flower" said Klopp who hopes to have joint-top scorer Sadio Mane at the very least on the bench after he returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty with Senegal "If something bounces on it then it’s away Obviously that happened kind of but it’s not that we play without confidence "I can see a lot of moments when we really still believe in our skills and all that stuff So we don’t have to make it too big but it’s not that difficult "It’s not that I say there’s no chance until Tuesday to make a real turn "Somebody asked me a second ago if this is the lowest point of my Liverpool time until now – I don’t know But if it is it’s the perfect point to turn because it’s not possible to go lower That’s all we have to think about now "It is a home game against the leader of the league and we need everyone for the game" Conte’s side arrive bursting with confidence and with the Italian hoping to deal a huge mental blow to his opponents Since they lost consecutive Premier League games to Liverpool and Arsenal in September they have won 17 of 19 games in all competitions since but perhaps face a pivotal week as regards the title race with Tuesday’s game followed by a home match with Arsenal "It could be a hard hit mentally for them (if Liverpool lose to Chelsea)" said Conte on Monday "It’s important to win this type of game increase your confidence take three points from a rival" Arsenal will enter their home game with Watford bursting with confidence on the back of a 5-0 whipping of rivals Southampton in the FA Cup – Watford by contrast were sent packing by third tier Millwall Particularly encouraging for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is the return to fitness and form of Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck who scored ahat-trick and a double respectively against a limpid Saints outfit That has only emboldened Wenger to believe he does not need to make any last minute purchases and has the squad necessary to secure their first league title since 2004 "I believe that number-wise and quality-wise we have what is required to do well" said the Frenchman who will serve the second of his four-match touchline ban Spurs had an almighty scare against fourth tier Wycombe in the Cup and their boss Mauricio Pochettino is hoping there is not a costly upset on Tuesday against the bottom side "The three points are important for them but they are very important for us and we have to be aware of the pressure that we need to win because at the end of the season we need to fight for big things" said the Argentinian Wednesday’s action will see both Manchester clubs in action although now the fight is more about Champions League qualification than the title Fifth-placed City who are 12 points adrift of Chelsea travel to West Ham who will be a happier outfit having sold striking Frenchman Dimitri Payet whilst United – 14 points off the leaders – host strugglers Hull who beat them in their League Cup second leg semi-final tie last week but still lost on aggregate Melbourne: The Indian women hockey team ended their Australian tour with a 1-3 defeat in the third and final match as they lost the series 1-2 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Melbourne on Sunday File photo of Nikki Pradhan Reuters With the series level at one game apiece the Indian eves put their best foot forward early on as Nikki Pradhan Deep Grace Ekka and goalkeeper Rajani Etimarpu successfully foiled attempts by the Australians to keep the score line at 0-0 going into the second quarter The Indian eves were quick to strike in the second quarter as Deepika and Rani combined to display some remarkable stick work allowing Vandana Katariya to get an easy deflection into the goal in the 17th minute Deepika was in action again preventing Kalindi Commerford from scoring Australia’s first goal An unfortunate on-field collision moments later resulted in Captain Vandana being ruled out for the remainder of the game India maintained their 1-0 lead going into half-time as the Hockeyroos could not convert three successive penalty corners The Indian eves earned four successive PCs in the third quarter but were unable to convert any even as Nikki and goalkeeper Etimarpu were kept busy by the Australian frontline India had a bit of luck soon after as a powerful strike by Commerford ricocheted off the goalpost followed by an agile save from Etimarpu to prevent a deflection from sneaking past her Australia were back in the hunt again as they earned two penalty corners and Brooke Peris’ 39th minute PC conversion saw the Hockeyroos draw level with India The hosts earned two more PCs and Gabi Nance successfully converted one in the 41st minute to give Australia a 2-1 lead going into the final quarter The Indian eves stepped up their game in the final 15 minutes attacking the Australian defence as they searched for an equaliser However the Hockeyroos continued to charge at the Indian backline with Kathryn Slattery and Murphy Allendorf looking to increase the lead Sunita Lakra and Deep Grace Ekka rose to the occasion denying the Hockeyroos a third goal until the dying moments of the match However goalkeeper Etimarpu who has been brilliant in this series was outdone by a firm hit from Jordyn Holzberger that saw Australia increase the deficit to 3-1 Although Deepika put up a brave fight towards the end Australia went on to win the match and the series 2-1 India’s Deepika was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for her stellar performance in the series By: Express News Service | New Delhi | Published: March 22 2016 2:53 am Top News A
