Hernandez: Caro Center Psychiatric Hospital will remain local State Rep, Shane Hernandez (R-Port Huron) worked with House colleagues well into the night Tuesday putting the final touches on the 2018 Michigan budget.  As part of final budget negotiations, Rep. Hernandez worked with several House and Senate colleagues to ensure that the Caro Center Psychiatric Hospital will remain at or near its current location.“Hundreds of people rely on Caro Center for their health care needs and as a place of employment,” Hernandez said. “It just makes good sense to ensure the new facility will be located in the same community, utilizing the existing infrastructure and workforce.”The $115 million is included in capital outlay budget for a new psychiatric hospital, which will replace the aging facility.  As one of only five state-owned psychiatric hospitals, many politicians from across the state attempted to relocate the facility to their home districts.“The health care needs of our residents and sound fiscal policy should always come before politics when making decisions such as this,” Hernandez continued. “I want to thank Governor Snyder and his team for standing strong against the political pressure to relocate Caro Center.  Thanks to his leadership, we will soon look forward to a new and improved facility, which will serve our citizens for generations to come.”###About Rep.
