If you are a savvy Nova Scotia exporter with an excellent record and a competitive edge, you may be the next recipient of a Nova Scotia Export Achievement Award. Nova Scotia companies are invited to apply for the 23rd annual exporter-recognition event, by Wednesday, Feb. 28. The event is to be held at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax on Thursday, May 10. Seven Nova Scotia companies will be recognized for skill and dedication through outstanding exporting achievements. The awards, presented by Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the Nova Scotia division of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, are designed to honour exporters’ growth, innovation, partnerships and business volume, and to recognize contributions exporters make to the economy. Nova Scotia has 900 exporters, an industry that, in 2005, was valued at $8.1 billion in international exports. Past winners said they gained long-term benefits and recognition by winning a Nova Scotia Export Achievement Award. The award helps raise the company’s profile, attracts foreign customers and boosts employee morale. “Awards such as the Nova Scotia Export Achievement Award can bring your company instant credibility in a new market and they can also raise your profile in your own backyard,” said Earle Hickey, vice president, international for Jacques Whitford, winner of the 2006 Export Growth Through Partnership Award. “The level of growth we’ve established in 12 to 14 months abroad is pretty amazing. We’ve managed to adapt, and continue to increase our sales internationally at a rate that’s staggering,” said Dwayne Smithers, senior vice president, corporate development and marketing for Secunda International, winner of the 2006 Export Growth Through Sales Award.
