first_imgDepartment SummaryThe Department of Meteorology and Climate at San José StateUniversity invites applications for an Assistant Professor,tenure-track position in atmospheric chemistry that complementsexisting departmental expertise in wildfire weather, cloud physics,climate change, climate education research, mesoscale and synopticmeteorology.A candidate will be preferred with interests both in how greenhousegases and/or air quality drives regional climate change as aradiative forcing as well as how air quality may respond to climatechange.Required QualificationsWe seek outstanding candidates who will contribute to a traditionof high quality teaching and engaging students in researchprojects, as well as to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusionin atmospheric sciences and in STEM disciplines more broadly.Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in atmospheric science (or aclosely related discipline). A demonstrated track record inresearch and teaching is preferred. Candidates will be evaluated onprevious experience, communication skills, publication record,grant and contract activities, and the ability to work bothcollaboratively and independently. We seek a candidate who willdevelop their own externally funded research projects and isinterested in working on collaborative projects.Applicants should demonstrate that they are prepared for andenthusiastic about teaching classes at the undergrad and graduatelevel, including but not limit to atmospheric chemistry, airpollution meteorology, statistical methods, or global carbon cycle.They should also be familiar with a variety of modern teachingtechniques and emerging technologies for instruction.Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to educationalgoals of a multicultural population as might have been gained incross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparableexperience.We highly value experience with and commitment to service insupport of diversity, equity, and inclusion in meteorology andclimate science and/or STEM in general.
